The artist

Art shaped by imagination, culture, and human connection.

Carlos Arturo Rampolla Mora is a Panamanian visual artist whose career has crossed borders, disciplines, and artistic styles. From his early years in Panama to his professional work in the United States, Rampolla has developed a body of work distinguished by vivid color, symbolism, portraiture, cultural identity, spirituality, and an unmistakable sense of imagination.

His connection to art began at an early age. As a young artist in Panama, Rampolla studied painting and developed his skills through formal artistic training while beginning to establish his own creative voice. By his early twenties, his work was already attracting the attention of the Panamanian press.

Several newspaper features documented the emergence of the young painter, including the article “Mi Panamá a través del pincel de Carlos Rampolla” (“My Panama Through the Brush of Carlos Rampolla”). His early works explored Panama’s history, culture, people, and national identity through painting, photography, acrylic, collage, and mixed-media compositions.

Another early feature described him as a “joven pintor panameño” succeeding in the United States. His work included portraits as well as compositions inspired by internationally recognized historical and artistic figures. His paintings demonstrated an early fascination with the human face and the ability of portraiture to communicate personality, emotion, and story.

From Panama to California

A new chapter in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rampolla eventually relocated from Panama to the San Francisco Bay Area, where his artistic career continued to grow. California opened a new chapter in his work. He exhibited paintings, produced commissioned artwork, and continued developing his reputation as a portrait artist. Newspaper coverage from this period documents exhibitions and public presentations of his work in Northern California, including the San Francisco area.

His portrait work became particularly significant. Rather than simply reproducing a person’s physical appearance, Rampolla approached portraiture as a way of interpreting character and emotion. His subjects have ranged from private individuals to well-known personalities and cultural figures.

His artistic career also brought him into contact with the entertainment industry. Press coverage documented his experiences working around film productions in California and described Rampolla not only as a painter but also as an actor, reflecting a creative career that extended beyond the traditional boundaries of the studio.

An artist without boundaries

Versatility at the heart of the work.

One of the recurring themes throughout Rampolla’s career is versatility. Painting remains at the center of his artistic identity, but his work encompasses fine art, portraiture, murals, mixed media, conceptual projects, commissioned artwork, and large-format installations.

A 2008 newspaper profile titled “Espiritual y libre” (“Spiritual and Free”) captured another important dimension of Rampolla’s artistic philosophy. His work is deeply connected to emotion, imagination, freedom, spirituality, peace, and the human experience.

For Rampolla, art is not simply decoration. It is a means of communicating ideas that may be difficult to express in words.

That philosophy can be seen in ambitious projects such as “Explosión en el Cosmos” (“Explosion in the Cosmos”), a monumental acrylic-on-canvas work measuring approximately 10 × 14 feet, completed in 2012. The scale of the work reflects Rampolla’s willingness to move beyond conventional formats and create immersive visual experiences.

A Panamanian voice with an international vision

Heritage, experience, and imagination.

Although Rampolla’s career has taken him beyond Panama, his Panamanian heritage remains an important thread running through his artistic story.

His earliest documented works celebrated Panama’s history and national identity. As his career expanded internationally, that foundation evolved into a broader exploration of humanity, nature, spirituality, culture, and personal experience.

Today, through Rampolla Arts, Carlos Arturo Rampolla Mora brings decades of artistic experience to original fine art and commissioned projects. His work includes custom portraits, murals, artwork for homes and businesses, large-scale commercial and corporate installations, and individually commissioned pieces.

He also shares his experience through art instruction, helping others discover and develop their own creativity.

From a young painter chronicling the history and spirit of Panama to an artist building a career in the United States, Rampolla’s journey reflects a lifelong commitment to creation.

His canvas may change in size, location, or purpose, but the goal remains the same: to transform imagination, emotion, culture, and human experience into art.
